Appletree Cottage is set in an attractive, peaceful hilltop position with superb views over farmland in an area of outstanding natural beauty between the historical, medieval market towns of Rye and Battle and a short distance from the coast.
The cottage is surrounded by a beautiful garden with easy access to fine walking country and other outdoor pursuits, such as golf, riding and bird watching. The accommodation consists of two double rooms with private bathroom and twin en-suite. Guests have the use of a comfortable lounge with open fire in winter. A full, hearty breakfast is cooked on the aga with eggs from the owner’s hens, local bacon and home made bread, jam and marmalade.
For those planning a holiday, there are many attractions in this beautiful part of East Sussex with important historical significance, including the Battle of Hastings in 1066, which took place in the picturesque town of Battle. Rye is famous for its pretty cobbled streets and maritime maze of Medieval and Georgian buildings. Nearby there are two National Trust properties: the magnificent fairytale castle of Bodiam (only 3 miles away) and Rudyard Kipling’s house, ‘Batemans’, in the quiet village of Burwash. A steam railway runs from the beautiful town of Tenterden to Bodiam. Europe’s largest beach-launched fishing fleet can be seen in the attractive Old Town of Hastings. For garden lovers, Sissinghurst, Great Dixter and Pashley Manor are within a short distance.
