“The Limes” is a quiet family owned and managed guesthouse on the fringe of the Lake District National Park with scenic views overlooking the Eamont river valley.
Our rural setting is a short drive from M6 J40 where the A66 Trans Pennine trunk road crosses, ideally located for overnight stops or longer visits to the area. It is a fine and spacious late 19th Century Victorian farmhouse with a warm family atmosphere. Much of the interior retains the original features such as the pine staircase and substantial marble fireplaces. Outside is a private parking area and large garden which guests can enjoy.
All the rooms have their own en-suite and up to date furnishings. These are complemented by room controlled heating, tea and coffee making facilities, television and free WiFi access. There are two large Premium rooms with seating area, two standard doubles and two twin rooms. If required there is the option to add a single bed and/or cot to a premium room, and on the top floor an adjoining door between a double and twin room can be opened to create a family suite to which a cot can also be added to sleep up to five people. We will accommodate as best we can family and friend gatherings wishing to book all the rooms, which can be offered at a group rate. We serve a "Full English" breakfast including traditional, locally-made Cumberland sausages, with homemade jam and marmalade for your toast. Lighter options are also available - the choice is yours! We do not provide an evening meal, but there are many places within a short distance to eat out and we do provide facilities for people to use the dining room in the evening if they wish to bring food in, where a microwave and fridge are provided. We will, of course, take care of any washing up.
Pooley Bridge and the Ullswater Cruisers are only four miles away and The Limes is ideally located for easy access to any area of The Lake District, Eden Valley, Pennines, Yorkshire Dales, Hadrian's Wall and the Scottish Borders. As a family of cyclists ourselves we offer secure cycle storage for those on the coast to coast cycle route, which passes our front door. We are also happy to offer route suggestions to those who just wish to tour the local area. The Wood Workshop is just a two minute walk along the quiet country lane which make us an ideal place to stay for those attending courses. A five minute walk in the other direction along the country lane brings you to The Rheged Centre for which we are the nearest accommodation in the area. As neighbours and local businesses who like to support each other our guests can receive discounts in Rheged's 10 shops, 3 cafes, children's play areas, pottery painting workshop, giant 3D cinema and gallery exhibitions.
