India Cottage, Ross-on-Wye
India Cottage lies in the heart of the Ross-on-Wye, a lovely historic town with timber framed houses, beautiful walks and a number of outstanding pubs and restaurants. The town sits on the border with Wales and is surrounded by the beautiful Herefordshire countryside and the Wye Valley, an area of Outstanding National Beauty.
There are many local attractions and activities and the cottage makes a perfect base from which to tour the Wye Valley, Forest of Dean, Symonds Yat, the Welsh Borders, Black Mountains, Brecon Beacons, Herefordshire and Monmouthshire.
There are many historic sites – the red sandstone Goodrich Castle is one of the most distinctive ruins in the area, perched high above the River Wye on a craggy crop surrounded by an empty moat, with tremendous views from its towers across the Wye Valley. The cottage is perfectly placed for Offa's Dyke, and is the ideal gateway into the Forest of Dean.
The cities of Hereford, Gloucester and Worcester and the Spa town of Cheltenham are an easy drive, as are Chepstow and Hereford for a day at the races. Ross-on-Wye is conveniently situated at the end of the M50, surprisingly close to London, (approx 2.5 hours). Birmingham, Bristol and Cardiff are all approx 1 hour. This self-catering, pet friendly cottage is lovely for a short break or longer holiday.
