Smugglers Cove is located in an area of Special Scientific Interest on the southernmost border of the Snowdonia National Park, in our own Frongoch Boatyard, on the banks of the River Dyfi estuary about 3.5 miles inland from the estuary’s outlet to the sea at Aberdovey [Aberdyfi].
The surrounding countryside is ideal for ambling, walking, cycling or simply driving around soaking up the rural surroundings.
Aberdovey [in Welsh Aberdyfi] is 3.5 miles to the west on the A493 & is a popular summer seaside resort with wide stretches of sandy beaches, cafes seaside shops & the yacht club and a Championship Links Golf Course.
Tywyn, further around the coast from Aberdovey, is 7 miles away. It is home to the Magic Lantern Cinema in Corbett Square, an old Victorian school picture house which not only shows great movies, but also has lots of live events & a ‘cool’ bar. Owned by our partner Geoff & his wife Annie, Smugglers Cove guests can not only experience a great night out in a really atmospheric cinema but get a great deal from Geoff too! The town has a selection of shops with the Tredegar Inn being a popular pub.
Machynlleth is a market town, & the nearest larger town 7 miles to the north east, with a Coop supermarket, mainline railway station on the Birmingham -Aberystwyth line, a golf course, health centre, restaurants & Library. There are interesting shops on the main street, a weekly street market & the Wynnstay Hotel & White Lion popular pubs within yards of the Clock Tower centre of town.
Also approximately 7 miles north on the A493 & off the A487 is the well known Centre for Alternative Technology [CAT]. It offers a great day out for anyone interested in solutions to green living.
