The Lookout, a traditional fishermans cottage is in one of the loveliest and sunniest locations in St Ives. Facing south, its back door opens right onto the beach with golden sands and clear turquoise water. The beach really is on your doorstep. It is a simple cottage, traditional and charming and little changed over the last 30 years. Built on 3 floors it still has many of its original features with window seats on two floors where one can sit and watch the ever changing harbour views. The Lookout is in one of the most picturesque parts of St Ives and probably the most photographed area which is depicted in Art all over the world.
Up the gently winding wooden stairs to the top floor is the pretty double bedroom with wonderful views from the window seat across the harbour and beyond. On this floor is the bathroom with bath and sink with a separate toilet. Back down leads to the sitting room, again those lovely harbour and coastal views from the window seat, small double sofa bed that can put up two further guests. Flat screen TV. More stairs take you to the lower ground floor, the kitchen, charming in its originality of years gone by. Along with the cooker, sink and smeg fridge is a microwave, toaster and washer/dryer. Two more windows add to the light and more fabulous views of the ever changing harbour life. Out through the kitchen door takes you straight onto a private patio area on the beach with table and 4 chairs. This lower ground floor is suitable for a well behaved dog by arrangement, but please notify the owner to discuss.
St Ives is one of the most loved towns in Cornwall, regarded as the Jewel in Cornwalls crown. It has breathtaking coastal scenery, crystal blue waters and golden sand and benefits from a sub-tropical climate warmed year round by the gulf stream. Tropical plants grow here and there are several gardens in St Ives where one can sit among their splendour. There are many Artists Studios and Galleries and the fame of the artists colony in St Ives is well documented. It has attracted many artists and still does, partly due to the quality of light, being surrounded on three sides by the sea.
The beaches here are stunning and range from the huge surfing beach of Porthmeor with its crashing waves, huge expanse of sand and spectacular sunsets to the quieter beaches of the harbour, Porthgwidden and Barmaluz. All these are within minutes of The Lookout apart from the harbour beach, being on your doorstep. Of course, a short walk away is Porthminster Beach renowned for its beachside restaurant again with spectacular views and golden sand.
If walking is a hobby then a good walk can be had walking the coastal path to Zennor, about 5 miles towards Lands End with The Tinner Arms waiting for you for well earned refreshment. Catch the bus back if one way is enough. The scenery along this path is breath taking with coves and even seals along this stretch.
There are many things to enjoy here, boat trips, swimming/relaxing on the many beaches, surf school, painting classes or relaxing in the many cafes. Once in St Ives you dont need to leave if you dont want to - park up the car and relax.
