Jan & Jerry Sharpe welcome you to Furzedon which is a new build cob house.

It is one of only 4 new cob houses to have been built since the early 20th century. Cob is the vernacular building material of the South West. Although the house may be built from traditional materials it has all the modern amenities and facilities needed to make your stay with us comfortable and relaxing.

Our bed and breakfast guest room is a large double en suite bedroom that could also be a family room. There are French doors opening onto a patio that also serves as your own private entrance.

In the room there is a flat screen TV, tea and coffee making facilities and free wi fi connection. All our bed linen and towels are 100% cotton.

Breakfast is served in our light and airy atrium with views across the garden and valley. Please let us know on booking if there are any dietry requirements. We offer a full breakfast together with cereals, fruit and yoghurts. Our English breakfast is freahly prepared from mostly locally sourced ingregients.

We have ample parking.

Secure storage for bicyles/fishing gear/wet suits/surf boards.

Tariff

A 20% non-refundable deposit is required on booking. We accept credit/debit cards.

Tariff £35 pppn. £50 single person supplement. £10 per child per night (aged bvetween 3 - 11 years). £15 per extra person per night sharing.

Furzedon is a no smoking establishment. We are unable to accommodate pets.

  • Merton is a small village in rural Devon located between Okehampton and Bideford
  • This makes Merton the ideal place for exploring the wonderful Devon countryside, coast and attractions
  • Immediately within the Merton vicinity is the Tarka Trail which is a 22 mile trail for cycling or walking
  • Access to the Trail is only 1 mile away
  • The Tarka Trail passes through tranquil countryside and follows the river Torridge to the estuary at Bideford and beyond to the town of Barnstaple
  • Just 10 minutes drive away is the historic town of Great Torrington with three renowned attractions
  • These are RHS Rosemoor Gardens, which is second only to RHS Wisley in terms of its size and range of plants and show gardens
  • Dartington Crystal which offers visits to the factory and shop for bargain blown glass and the Civil War Centre, 1646, offering a fascinating insight of life during the English Civil War as played out in Great Torrington
  • Further a field there are many beautiful gardens to visit the most well known being the Eden Project and the Lost Gardens of Heligan, both of these are about 1 hour 15 minutes drive away
  • Merton is also ideally placed for visiting Dartmoor National Park
  • There are many footpaths and trails as well as horse riding
  • Okehampton is the nearest point of access to the Moor which is 12 miles from Merton
  • We can boast the spectacular north Devon coastline, famous for wonderful beaches, cliff top walks and steeped in smuggling and ship wrecking history
  • For those interested in water sports there is plenty of opportunity to surf, body board and fish
  • There are also interesting market towns to visit such as Bideford, Barnstaple, South Molton and Okehampton
  • Devon’s two cities of Exeter and Plymouth are easily reached for day trips
  • North Devon has much to offer from quiet countryside, to exhilarating wild coast line
  • Devon has many great pubs and restaurants, places to visit with fantastic scenery all in one of England’s least populated areas
