The Stairmand family look forward to welcoming you to their farmhouse at The Barr. Why not unwind with tea or coffee and some delicious farmhouse home baking on arrival? Guests can relax in luxury in their own part of the house, as we are at the other end – and in the colder months rest in comfort in front of a log burning stove in their own guest lounge.
Barr Farmhouse is peacefully situated on one side of the natural bowl that surrounds Dumfries with breath-taking views to the hills on the far side of the valley. An attractive, traditional farmhouse, full of characater dating back to the early 1800s, it was completely refurbished in 2005 to a high standard.
Not only does it have easy access the main motorways, and acts as a natural gateway to Edinburgh, Glasgow and the Highlands of Scotland, the English Lakes and Ireland, it is an area of outstanding beauty where there is much to do for the visitor.
Each bedroom has its own private bathroom or shower room and with a separate entrance at one end of the property, guests may enjoy the independence of coming and going as they wish. In the mornings you may indulge in a traditional full Scottish breakfast or select something from our alternative menu.
We are Dog people and welcome your dogs. We are also close to the 7 stanes Mountain bikes track at Ae Forest (7 mins), Mabie Forest (20 mins) and Dalbeattie (30 mins). Wash down facilities and storage for Mountain Bikes are available here at The Barr.
