The Sandpiper was originally an old school house converted to  a pair of semi-detached cottages. No. 1 The Sandpiper is the left hand of the front building and is kept as a holiday home sleeping a maximum of six persons and furnished to the NITB 4 star standard.

It is located near Cranfield between Kilkeel and Rostrevor at the foot of the Mourne Mountains, with panoramic views of the Irish Sea, Carlingford Lough and the Mourne Mountains. 

Situated in this picturesque area Sandpiper is good for a family beach holiday, a mountain walking holiday or ideal as a base for those who would like to tour around this beautiful location. It is approximately 1 hours drive from Belfast and 2 hrs from Dublin.

The nearest shop is exactly a mile away on the road into Kilkeel.  The nearby charming fishing port of Kilkeel offers excellent small shops, pubs, restaurants, a good supermarket and and a swimming pool. The hotel (Kilmorey Arms) on the way into Kilkeel serves excellent food.  

Other attractions near The Sandpiper include a pitch & putt course [open most weekends  & every day in the high Season] and the beach  at Cranfield East is only 10 mins walk away. The beaches (Cranfield East & West) are both blue flagged.  Cranfield East is quiet while Cranfield West is much busier with lifeguards etc.during the summer months.

Kilkeel Golf Club (028-41765095) is only a few minutes drive away and there is an equestrian centre about 15mins drive away where pony trekking is available (028-41764771 or 07740306523). 

If you enjoy hill walking there are many walks of differing difficulties a short distance away. 

In the cottage there is a 35ft. living room/dining room with well-fitted and well-equipped kitchen at one end complete with electric hob and oven, microwave oven, fridge with freezer, dishwasher, washer/dryer, espresso coffee maker. The audiovisual centre has a colour TV with freesat as well as a video recorder, dvd player and radio/cd player. The internet is available via a dongle on the 3 network for a small extra charge.

A cloakroom off the hall with toilet and basin completes downstairs.

Upstairs there are two large bedrooms: a large double bedroom with a kingsized bed (5feet) and a family bedroom with a double bed (4feet 6 inches) and two single beds.  The bathroom has toilet, basin, bath and separate shower cubicle with  power shower.  The linen cupboard with hotwater storage tank contains sufficient towels, sheets  duvets & duvet covers, pillows and pillowcases.

The heating  and hot water are supplied by an oil fired boiler fitted with a time-clock and thermostats.

Outside at the rear of the building there is a small patio area with table chairs and an umbrella.

At the front of the building there is parking for three cars and there is a bicycle for guests to use.
